Wine Club

January 1, 2011

Here in Sonoma County, wine is everything.  It’s a major industry; a huge tourist attraction; and part of the lifeblood of the community.  It is no surprise, then, that a popular thing to do around here is join the various wine clubs associated with the wineries that are everywhere.  We happen to live on the extreme western edge of Santa Rosa, which means we are very close to the wineries in the Russian River Valley, much to our delight.  Since July we have visited many wineries, and our interest piqued with all the clubs, but they all seemed too much of a financial commitment.  Until Balletto.

I discovered Balletto thanks to a new friend who brought over a bottle of their incredible smooth and delicious Pinot Gris.  It has been among my favorite bottles of wine ever since and I have bought it many times.

Last week while David’s family was in town for the holidays we stopped by Balletto Vineyards (which happens to be about 2 miles away from our house).  I was so excited–this was the first winery that we had been to that I could say with confidence that I absolutely loved their wine.  The experience was so great–there was a coziness and a personal touch that is missing from many of the larger wineries.

David and I decided pretty much right away that we should join this wine club and I am so excited we did.  We get two bottles of wine every other month and for that price, they host several parties every year, including a harvest party which I am so excited about.  We also get a huge price break on bottles that we buy any other time, which is great because after the tasting we did, we realized that we really love every single bottle that they make.

I am so excited to be a member of Balletto.  Here’s to great wine!
