A Love Letter

February 2, 2011

Dear Sonoma County,

There is something about you that is just magic.

Your light–it’s nothing short of incredible. It’s golden in the way you want sunlight to be.

It makes everything look warm and inviting.

Your pine trees, they are so magnificent. Growing up in Michigan, my family vacationed often Up North, where pines are a-plenty. Your trees remind me of that home.

I never thought I’d find a place that felt as right to me as Michigan.¬† Michigan will always be home in the way that where a person grows up will always be home.

But in you, I have found a place that feels so much like me, it’s hard to believe I haven’t been with you all of my life.

Your hills (oh your hills!)– their beautiful gold color in the summer, parched from the sun and green in the winter because of all the rain;

your blue sky; your gorgeous gold sunlight; your trees; your miles and miles and miles of vineyards; your ocean with its rocky, jagged edges that make it so hauntingly beautiful….

Everything about you makes me grateful.

And I know now why everyone says, “isn’t this the best place on Earth?”

I reckon you just might be.
